OpenMandriva: It’s Almost a Done Deal

mandrivaToday Charles-H. Schulz blogged to share that "the statutes of the "OpenMandriva Association" have been sent to the French authorities and the incorporation process has thus started." Schulz admits originally being skeptical that Mandriva would ever be truly open, that was until he spoke personally with Mandriva SA CEO Jean-Manuel Croset.

Schulz continued by saying that the transition to the new community directed project and migrating all the infrastructure is "somewhere around 80%" complete and that none of it would have been possible without the commitment from Jean-Manuel Croset. He said, "It is not everyday you see an example of a community who gains its independence with the blessing and dedication of its former steward."

"When I look back at the history of this distribution, I see both the missed opportunities and I see the uncanny momentum of the community, " Schulz said. "Mageia has shown one of the fastest expansion in two years: I see this as evidence that the original idea behind Mandriva is still the right one. The Mageia community is our friend and we respect them. Their talent and skills are positive for Mandriva SA and if OpenMandriva knows how to handle these, to OpenMandriva as well."

Schulz concluded with, "For the first time since 1998, OpenMandriva has now reached the point where it can fully decide what’s good for itself. I, for one, am happy to help and am honored to be part of it." See his full post for more details.

In other OpenMandriva news, The Mandriva Forum is soon closing and a new OpenMandriva forum will be launched. They’ve decided to go with Drupal for the entire community portal and will only require one to log in once to use all services.
