First Mandriva Foundation Meeting a Success

mandrivaAs noted earlier, Charles Schulz with various members of Mandriva SA and the Mandriva development team met in Paris today discuss the future of the struggling Linux distribution. Schulz blogged after the meeting to brief interested parties in the progress, stating it had been a "fantastic day."

Schulz has taken on the task of helping to form a foundation to direct the pathway forward for a community-based distribution project that could hopefully survive on its own, but more importantly, could also provide a base for commercial prospects. He said earlier today that the attendees envision an inclusive, yet independent, foundation that can guide a transparent "meritocratic project" that "promotes software freedom and puts community processes first."

Schulz continues by saying they’ve started "work on the essential building blocks." These include things like "infrastructure resources, the governance, etc." No details were given at this time, but one day is such little time. The attendees hope their broad ideas will spur more discussion, but specific topics will be raised for in-depth conversations in the coming days and weeks on Mandriva forums and mailing lists.

Among the attendees were Jean-Manuel Croset, Mandriva CEO and Per Øyvind Karlsen, developer.
